Governments everywhere are looking for ways to create new, quality jobs, despite restricted budgets. Energy-efficient retrofitting of public buildings creates jobs, reduces energy usage, and can be financed through cost savings. In order to maximize both the energy cost savings and the job creation potential, it is important that local jurisdictions embrace strong job quality standards. Local labor community coalitions from Boston to Los Angeles have been effective at raising public awareness and encouraging local elected officials to implement policy changes.
